Valve Offers Discounted Refurbished Steam Decks

Valve has recently revealed its introduction of “certified refurbished” Steam Deck units. These reconditioned devices are priced approximately 20 percent lower than their brand-new counterparts, making them more affordable than the prices during the Steam Summer Sale. Moreover, these consoles come with the same one-year warranty as the new models. Additionally, Valve has announced that GameStop will be selling refurbished Steam Deck units in specific stores. However, GameStop’s refurbished models are processed at their own facilities and will be accompanied by their own warranty.

At the time of release, Valve has all three Steam Deck levels in stock. The 64GB model will cost $319, the 256GB version will sell for $419, and the 512GB version will sell for $519 — the same systems in new condition retailing for $399, $529, and $649, respectively.

Valve says it thoroughly tests each unit before certifying it for resale. “Each device undergoes a full factory reset, software update, and extensive testing that includes over 100 tests at one of Valve’s facilities,” the company wrote. “Among the tests are all controller inputs, audio system, screen and internal parts. The condition of the battery is also evaluated to ensure proper operation and a long service life.”

The company warns that refurbished units “may have minor cosmetic flaws,” but promises “a reliable, high-quality gaming experience at a lower price.” In addition to the same warranty as new consoles, refurbished models include a power supply (also refurbished), a carrying case and a quick start guide. Valve says refurbished Steam Deck inventory is limited “and may vary over time.” The company recommends checking its refurbished stocks regularly if they are sold out.

GameStop’s Refurbished Steam Decks are also available today. They’ll be sold at select retailers for “up to 20% off new models” and are only available to customers with a $25-a-year GameStop Pro membership.
